ICCA Co-operation

Cefic is a member of the International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA), a council of leading industry associations representing chemical manufacturers’ associations worldwide.
The ICCA provides a forum for regular meetings of executives from the member associations to discuss policy issues of international interest to the chemical industry. In addition, the ICCA may make policy statements or develop programmes in cases where its member associations reach consensus.

The purpose of the ICCA is to exchange views and co-ordinate action among its members and to help present the industry’s case to international organisations. These are mainly inter-governmental agencies (for example, the World Trade Organisation, the International Maritime Organisation, the United Nations Environment Programme and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) and international private organisations (for example, the International Organisation for Standardisation, ISO).

The ICCA is concerned with policy issues of international significance to the chemical industry. These include health, safety and the environment; the safety of international transport; intellectual property; trade policy; and industry efforts to eliminate chemical weapons and diversion to illegal drugs. The ICCA does not deal with trade missions or business promotion.

Among its activities, ICCA promotes and co-ordinates Responsible Care and other voluntary chemical industry initiatives (for example, the industry’s two key global research programmes, LRI and HPV).

The ICCA Council Secretary is Jack Gerard, CEO of ACC (January 2007 – April 2009).
